John was born in Ottawa, Canada and moved to the United States in 1999. While John was a competitive swimmer as a youth, he did not start competing in triathlons until 2007 after participating in recreational cycling for many years (MS-150, etc.). Currently, he is a 15–time IRONMAN finisher, 20-time 70.3 finisher, and qualifier/finisher for both 70.3 World Championships (2014, 2017, & 2018) and Kona World Championships (2016 & 2017). John’s launch into ultra-endurance events has found him participating in events such as Ultraman Florida (2015) and +50-mile runs such as Badwater Cape Fear (51.4 mi.), Brazos Bend 50, with many more ultra events to come.
John's USAT age-group standings have earned him All-American honors from 2014 through 2018.
John lives in Houston, Texas USA with his wife Wendy Hammerman (Triathlon Coach & also an accomplished triathlete!).
